Seaside Carnival 2019

Our wonderful, washed out 50th Seaside Carnival was a happy day full of quiz games, a roast raffle, the Grid, a magnificent lunch and the best looking Charity table yet! We presented our sponsor, Sydney Credit Union (SCU)’s Glen Warner, BDM, with a Certificate of Appreciation for their wonderful support for over thirty years. We also presented our charity, the Deaf and Blind Children, with a cheque to support their meaningful and caring work.

The rain was almost cyclonic and not a lawn bowl was to be seen, but the sound of laughter and happy chatter made the day a huge success! The friendships we have formed and the wonderful sense of belonging is such a vital part of our sport and we should all be thankful for one another! Thank you to all our friends from our District clubs and beyond who battled the weather to join in!

Grade 1 Pennants Game 3

IMG_2170 (Medium).JPG

2nd April 2019

On the gorgeous Double Bay Bowling Club greens where the world disappears and you feel enveloped in a glorious jungle, the third match of the Grade 1 Pennants teams took place after two cancellations due to rain. Previously we had lost the first match and then lost second match by only one point. Today we drew! What an epic battle it was! With several die hard supporters from Clovelly to goad us on, we ignored the intermittent rain and did our best but just couldn’t outdo our worthy opponents who have dominated the Grade 1 ranks for quite a while.

Well done Double Bay! We wanted to beat you but will always love you!

2019 Major Singles Winner!

Our new club champ is Carmel Sowden who played Barbara Buhagiar in her first Singles final (without a doubt a future champion!) in an extremely tight match on Sunday 24th March in very hot conditions. The game, which included one Dead End, was a constant battle for the front and just when it looked like Barbara may have the advantage Carmel’s focus, determination and persistence earned her the win. Well done to Carmel who has scored her second Championship in 3 years and we wish her luck as she heads to the Champion of Champion competition once again! The game was expertly marked by our wonderful Sandra Starrett who did a fantastic job as always! The final score was 18-25. Congratulations to both the winner and the runner up – it was a marvelous spectacle!

Taylor Bowls – our coaching heroes!!!

In response to our growing number of new members, several of our top players trained to become certified Coaches! Training sessions are now being run at the club (for free if you are interested!) This has been fantastic and extremely enjoyable for everyone including seasoned bowlers.

The icing on the cake has been Taylor Bowls stepping up and kindly donating 5 sets of bowls in different sizes to the club for newbies to practice with! What an awfully kind thing to do! Below is an open letter from Coach Gina O’Reilly to Taylor Bowls and new members:

Coaching clinic bowls donation by Taylor’s Bowls Australia.

I would like to thank Adam Hateley from Taylor’s Bowls Direct Australia
for his generous donation of Taylor’s bowls for my coaching clinic at Clovelly Bowling Club.

Coaching new lawn bowlers and seasoned bowlers with the correct size of bowls and newer line helps students achieve confidence and enthusiasm!

Coaches can be contacted through Clovelly bowling club on Ph 9665 1507
