Womens’ Singles Major Winner!

On Tuesday 23rd June Gina O’Reilly played Kimberley Freed in the final of the Clovelly WBC Major Singles and won after a wonderful 25 ends! It was a cold and windy day but that didn’t disrupt the bowling. The final score was 25/18. Sandra Starrett was an excellent marker and everyone was tired but thrilled with the result!

Well done Champion Gina!

Womens’ Pairs finalist 2019

Sandra Starrett and Sue Snape won 17-11 on the new slower green which had them thinking for a while. The conditions were hard with lots of smoke haze affecting eyes and throats. Carmel Sowden and Gina O’Reily started strongly  7-1 up after 6 ends but Sandra and Sue came back and finished on top in a tough hard fought game. A great contest all round!

Bendigo Bank Club Open Singles Sucess!

It is a rare thing to survive to the final of the Clovelly Club Open Singles competition. To work your way up through six games is a huge feat! It was with utter pride and admiration that we gathered to watch our own Carmel Sowden fight it out for top place on Sunday 24th November. The match was against Rick Roper, a highly awarded player and we all knew it would be a nail-biter.

For two hours the pair positioned their bowls by the jack – with their opponent sneaking in and getting just a little bit closer. Point by painful point was fought over in one of the best games ever seen at our club.

Ultimately Rick won the honour of champ but in our eyes, our beautiful Carmel will always be number one! Well done to both of them and thank you Bendigo Bank and their representative, Karen Tayor, for 18 years of sponsorship of the competition.

The Presentation Day followed the match and after a delicious lunch the Men’s competition winners were awarded their trophies. It was an uplifting day full of laughter and friendship!

Seaside Carnival 2019

Our wonderful, washed out 50th Seaside Carnival was a happy day full of quiz games, a roast raffle, the Grid, a magnificent lunch and the best looking Charity table yet! We presented our sponsor, Sydney Credit Union (SCU)’s Glen Warner, BDM, with a Certificate of Appreciation for their wonderful support for over thirty years. We also presented our charity, the Deaf and Blind Children, with a cheque to support their meaningful and caring work.

The rain was almost cyclonic and not a lawn bowl was to be seen, but the sound of laughter and happy chatter made the day a huge success! The friendships we have formed and the wonderful sense of belonging is such a vital part of our sport and we should all be thankful for one another! Thank you to all our friends from our District clubs and beyond who battled the weather to join in!
